Recycle Me

Today is a gift. Tomorrow is not a promise. I don’t know about you, but I like gifts… even the crummy ones.

March 21st, 2010 and March 22nd, 2002 are gifts to the Donkey and Lion family. They mark the start of new life and beginnings; a birth of sorts. Without these days, Dan, my twin and the lion of the company wouldn’t have received two of his three double lung transplants. He wouldn’t have had the promise of tomorrow or the extra moments to build lasting memories.

While we celebrate life there are two families who grieve and mourn. Because in the end for our Lion to have more pages in his life another’s had to end. Without knowing it, two individuals gave him the ink to keep writing his story. This Donkey will forever be thankful to these strangers. Not only did they give my Lion more time but they gave anyone who knew him more time. They gave this Donkey more time. I only wish I could let these individuals and their families know how indebted I am to them.

The families- It is because of you that your loved one’s wishes were followed through. You gave the greatest gift while you were living your darkest moments. For that, I thank you.

Speaking with your loved ones about donating your organs is crucial. Even though you may sign your organ card or be registered many hospitals will not over step families wishes. If you want to give the greatest gift in life, speak to your loved ones. Make the final choice easy for them.

Don’t know where to start?

Let me help.

In honour of the individuals and the families who gave the Lion so many tomorrows and yesterdays, I created the Recycle Me series to help make the final choice a little more clear.
